Ride in 55: West Virginia Transportation Caucuses
Wheeling -Solutions/Suggestions
- Educate/disseminate information to riders, providers and policymakers on what existing transportation services are available; change public perception of who rides public transit and what the realities of public transit are, address the "stigma" of public transit; getting VA, health care community and others to participate in transportation coordination conversation
- Create incentives to encourage people to ride, develop services to meet needs (hours of operation, intercity bus systems, inner-state bus system, etc.), innovative Service Designs such as creating organization or network of volunteer drivers to fill the gaps in services, how to address underserved rural access; multi-jurisdiction agreements; tokens, monthly passes
- Develop innovative financing - combining local, state and federal dollars
- Provide meaningful information on the cost of providing transportation, determine total cost of operation, number of rides, need
- Explore technology to coordinate transit services and maximize resources
The West Virginia Transportation Caucuses are funded by the Medicaid Infrastructure Grant to Support the Competitive Employment of People with Disabilities, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services - CFDA #1QACMS30059. The lead agency is the West Virginia Division of Rehabilitation Services. This program is managed by the Center for Excellence in Disabilities (CED).
