Ride in 55: Proposed Actions and Follow-Up

What's Next
"Ride in 55" organizers will meet with representatives of the Community Transportation Association of American (CTAA) to review the following recommendations and develop an action plan, including tasks, responsible parties and timeline.

Recommendations made by participants at the Caucus sessions were summarized by Caucus representatives at the Summit.  The following are the recommendations encouraged by the participants in order to begin the road to coordinated transit in West Virginia and to increase transportation opportunities for West Virginians:

  1. Enhance the Transportation Coordinating Council through enabling legislation in 2010 Legislative Session.  Include language to encourage coordination among agencies.

  1. Establish a One Stop Call Shop

  1. Create Ride Transparency (across funding sources) through the use of a Universal Ride Pass (e-z pass for riders)

  1. Coordinate Support Services - interagency contracts; bulk buying

  1. Recommend a Study Resolution based of outcome of 2010 Legislative Session

  1. Maintain Regional Focus - One-size doesn't fit all.

  1. Educate Officials at all levels

  1. Create a "success story" and share it

  1. Advocate for transportation as a component of economic development

This draft plan will be disseminated to individuals who attended the Summit and the five Caucuses, who will be asked to review the document, suggest changes, and indicate if they would like to be involved in implementing the plan and where they feel they can be most effective.

"Ride in 55" is a coordinated effort to maximize transportation opportunities for West Virginia residents in all 55 counties and to encourage the best use of transportation resources in our state.

The West Virginia Transportation Caucuses are funded by the Medicaid Infrastructure Grant to Support the Competitive Employment of People with Disabilities, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services - CFDA #1QACMS30059. The lead agency is the West Virginia Division of Rehabilitation Services. This program is managed by the Center for Excellence in Disabilities (CED).
